Tank Seal Basis R32.
Geometry, analysis and remaining engineering work for Tank Seal Basis R32.
Retained development study. Dimensions, names and checks belong to this revision—not automatically to the retrofit-only product. Manufactured tank shells are deferred. No installation instruction, certification or manufacturing release is represented.

The detail behind
the study.
Source-linked work for this revision. Reported checks describe the stated model or test; physical qualification and applicability to the current retrofit remain separate.
This is a calculation study, not a selected seal or groove design. No tank geometry was changed.
For a hypothetical 8 mm cord and 6 mm groove depth, nominal squeeze is 25%. Comparing 10, 11 and 12 mm groove widths shows why nominal fit alone is insufficient. With the explicitly assumed tolerances and 10% volume-growth scenario, maximum local fill is approximately 98.2%, 89.2% and 81.7% respectively. These assumed tolerances and growth values are not supplier specifications, process capability or material test results.

The indexed Parker handbook describes typical gland fill of 60–85%. The full PDF could not be retrieved here, so its complete design-chart applicability has not been reviewed. The calculation does not qualify the 12 mm alternative: material/chemistry, actual tolerances, pressure direction, temperature, compression set, groove finish, corner geometry, seal joining and flange movement remain unresolved. Clamp loads and structural bearing require separate engineering.
Use this to guide further evaluation, not to issue machining dimensions or claim watertightness.
A proposed 12 mm-wide, 6 mm-deep rounded-rectangle path fits entirely within both R31 candidate rims. Its centerline corner radius is 100 mm. The check includes the curved corners and the full depth, not just a straight section. An expanded band containing 30 mm extra material on each side also remains inside the body; a 40 mm expansion does not. An oversized negative control confirms the containment check rejects paths outside the rim.
- 3370 mm body: nominal path length 9530.32 mm; space-reservation STEP. - 4410 mm body: nominal path length 11610.32 mm; space-reservation STEP.

The exported shape is reserved groove space, not a manufactured gasket or a cut tank body. Seal perimeter allowance, joining method, actual compound, compression behavior, flange deflection and clamping remain unresolved. The nominal path length is not a gasket cut length.
